Favourite bodyweight exercise and why?

Yoga push-ups are an effective way to increase the difficulty of the push-up. This push-up variation also has an increasing demand for hip and ankle mobility while challenging thoracic spine extension. This is exercise can be a great addition to a warm-up.

Corinne Staple

Education & Certifications:

CanFitPro Personal Training Specialist

YogaFit Certified Instructor

Experience:

I have been a certified Personal Training Specialist with Canfitpro for 10 years, and yoga instructor certified with Yogafit for 8 years. I teach my clients how to use their body weight to create less body weight.  Success for me is seeing my clients, or class participants, transform themselves in a positive way. Something most people don't know about me is I used to be a semi-professional belly dancer. Now I teach occasional workshops, and classes to small groups.

Favourite bodyweight exercise and why?

My favourite at home exercise is part of my daily yoga practice, it is Triangle pose.  I love this pose because I can feel my spine align and lengthen throughout the hold.

Favourite bodyweight exercise and why?

Lunge Jumps! Why? Because they are great for the quads and glutes, plus at the right pace they become a high intensity plyometric workout that can help boost cardio.

Marygrace Dela Cruz

Education & Certifications:

KIN-Exercise Science

Experience:

Favourite bodyweight exercise and why?

Too many to choose from but Bulgarian Squats is a top favourite. One of the best exercises to work the legs in my opinion, and is also a unilateral movement so it not only works on your glutes, quads, and hamstrings but also works on balance and stability. It can also be modified in many variations to make it harder or easier.

The handstand – I find it a great upper body exercise and a fun skill to develop.

Favourite bodyweight exercise and why?

The Burpee - it is a love hate relationship. A burpee is a very functional movement. When you break it down to the basics, it is moving from a standing position to a face down position on the floor. The functionality of getting up and lying down is something we will want to do for as long as possible. It does not have to be an explosive movement to be an effective exercise.

“Keep fitness fun! It doesn't matter what you do to stay fit; but if you are going to keep doing it you have to enjoy it! What is keeping things fun for me while working out at home? I recently started kickboxing and love it! My favourite pieces of fitness equipment - the TRX, Inertia Wave and of course the heavy bag!”
